The Path To Avalon
Will you step on the path to Avalon and visit the dragon upon the hill? One day when I was in Glastonbury last year I was drawn to go for a walk up the Tor, I wandered up past chalice well and the white spring and along the winding path. When I reached the top of the tor I realised since I set foot on the hill I hadn’t seen another person, and what a gift it was to have the place to myself! I felt drawn to do a walking meditation around the top of the tor and it felt truly magical to be in a space of being and dreaming up there by myself. I turned the corner around the tower and with my minds eye I saw the dragon of the tor - both made of the tor whilst also coiled around its curving slopes with its eye open looking at me in a kind and loving way. On my way walking back down the Tor, this painting and all its fairies popped into my head fully formed and as soon as I got back to where I was staying I got my iPad out and scribbled the idea down, two gifts from the tor that day!Back at the studio in the woods in Shropshire I played with the sketch a bit on the iPad to polish it up. Then drew the sketch out onto a canvas and started painting, it just seemed to flow and I got lost in the process for a while. I called the painting The Path to Avalon a nod to the legend of mysterious the isle of Avalon that is said to be Glastonbury. I was also listening to the audiobook of The Mists of Avalon at the time. This print will make a lovely addition to your home if you feel a connection with Glastonbury, or even if you just wish to bring a little magic and wonder to your everyday life.
